May 1 - 3, 2009 Texas Frightmare Weekend w/ Alice Cooper

A great weekend is expected at Texas Frightmare Weekend downtown Dallas.

Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, & John Malkovich Bring Jonah Hex to Life

Jonah Hex will be riding into a town near you sometime in 2010. Don't know who he is?
Well, let me see if I can fix that for you.

Jonah was created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga and first seen in 1972
along with other characters, but eventually found his self-titled series in 1977. Michael
Fleisher penned the comic for 92 issues. In 1985, Jonah got cancelled but turned right
around and got an 18 issue run, again, penned by Fleisher. He finds himself thrown into
a post-apocalyptic 21st century. Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti began a monthly
retelling of Jonah's adventurous life in 2005. This series was published without adhering
to the Comics Code which allowed for grittier content.

August 6th, 2010, will bring the arrival of Jonah Hex to the big screen. With Jimmy
Hayward at the helm, Josh Brolin will play Jonah and John Malkovich will play his
nemesis, Turnbull. Turnbull has it in his head that Jonah is responsible for his son's
death. Megan Fox will be playing a gun-toting saloon girl which should excite all the
geeks out there, me included.

Were you ever a fan of Jonah Hex? Interested in the movie?
Got any comments or expectations about it then let me know
by posting here or shooting me an email.

Trek Yourself

Found this on SciFi Chick's website. It's great for killing a little time.
When you're done playing with your faces, head over to Chick's site and give
it a browse. Lots of great information.

Official Star Trek Spork

What'll they think of next? The official Star Trek Spork is being sold to coincide
with the release of the movie and what else would set your mass of collectibles
off better? Only 1701 are being sold, so you better "eat" them up
while you can! (couldn't resist)

Kindle2 and iPod Shuffle read Blade Runner together

Very cool video put together to demonstrate the voice capabilities of the Kindle 2 and iPod shuffle. I've seen worse acting from people!

Ghosthunters on SciFi

I'm not necessarily addicted to this show, but I do look forward to Wednesday nights now. What I like about it is the fact that the guys go into each investigation with no prejudgment. Sometimes, you find a lot of nothing and then, you have a show where everyone is reconsidering the "other side."

What do you think? Is there another side? Is the show fake? Feel free to post and let us know!

Boom Brothers Announce the Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos Comic Book Sweepstakes

Kokomo, IN (PRWEB)
April 22, 2009 -- Starting May 1, 2009, BoomBrothers.net, an online
action and adventure web site, will conduct a sweepstakes to give away
six sets of Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos comics. A complete
year's collection of 12 issues of Sgt. Fury will be given away each
week to six lucky winners that enter the contest on the Boom Brothers
web site. Each comic book is in mint condition and has been sealed in a
package for over four decades. All anyone has to do to enter is go to www.BoomBrothers.net and sign up. And it is free.

The Sgt. Fury comic book series was the brain child of Marvel Comics'
Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, two of the most famous names in comic book
history. The series was very popular and ran for 167 issues from May
1963 to December of 1981. Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos were a
group of nine specially selected U.S. Army Rangers who served under
Captain "Happy Sam" Sawyer. Fury was the cigar-chomping noncom who led
the racially- and ethnically-integrated unit. Members of the Howling
Commandos included an Afro-American, a Jewish soldier, a British
soldier, and a German defector among a diverse group of otherwise
American soldiers. The main character, Sgt. Nick Fury, later became the
leader of Marvel's super-spy agency, S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Our Boom Brothers comic book sweepstakes is sort of a gift for our
readers." said the series Creative Director, Richard Parker. "We think
giving away a full year -- 12 issues -- of these very entertaining
publications to somebody every week is a great 'thank you' for those
loyal fans who visit us regularly." In fact, past issues of Sgt. Fury
and his Howling Commandos have become collectors' items and many are
quite valuable. The web's Comics Price Guide lists a copy of a premiere
issue of Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos as worth up to $1,800.

BoomBrothers.net is the currently featuring the internet novel, "We're
Gonna Need Bigger Guns", where the brothers extract revenge from
drug-dealing Satanists who mercilessly killed their war hero father in
the first chapter. They then begin a secret vigilante life of ridding
the world of drug lords, terrorists, organized crime, traitors,
tyrannical dictators, and gang bangers. In the Boom Brothers stories,
every page of text is accompanied by an action-packed image beautifully
illustrated by internationally known comic book artist, Luis Guaragna.
Readers are contacted by e-mail when a new chapter is released about
every week. Visitors can sign up to read the novel at no charge.

Free Comic Book Day May 2, 2009

Remember the first time you peeled back the cover of a comic book and drooled at the thought of what lay ahead? Yeah, you got bit and you loved it. Even if you don't still read them today, you remember it. You may have graduated to other books, but you still like to read and that is what Free Comic Day is all about. It's all about putting an end to illiteracy by getting a kid to read a comic book. You have to admit they are more colorful than a book without pictures.

Free Comic Book Day is the first day in May when comic book stores across America give away comic books absolutely free. Of course, there are guidelines. You didn't think they were just gonna throw their stock away did you? Contact your local comic book shop to get the lowdown. I'm currently aware of Boomerang Comics near where I live. Just click on there name in the previous sentence and find out what they've got going on or you can click on "Free Comic Book Day". Here is a video of Hugh Jackman talking about the day and his trailer for Wolverine.

All I can say is "Wow" about the WoW pod

This is an amazing (I think that's the right word) piece of architecture for the serious gamer. A mini-environment that he/she never has to leave thus immersing themselves that much more into the game. Complete with gaming system, food and means to prepare it, and the loo, you will never have to see your family again. World of Warcraft will never be the same with the Wow pod!

New Harry Potter 6 Trailer

The sixth installment of the Harry Potter franchise is due for release July 15th. This means that I should pull out the collection and reacquaint myself with them. That's the only problem with long series such as these. You tend to forget things before the next one comes out. Looking very forward to this.

We Are Hunted helps in finding new music

We Are Hunted is a great site in the fact that it does all the hunting so you don't. By compiling searches from across blogs, torrents, P2P and twitter, it finds the most sought after tunes. Or if you don't see it, you can search for it. Check it out and let me know what you think. What type of music do you search for most? Are you a tried
and true listener of one style or do you like to mix it up?

Steampunk Myths & Legends

Steampunk Crazy

I've gone on a little "Steampunk" bend and I'm enjoying it. Steampunk is a little genre that is reminiscent of Jules Verne and H. G. Wells. The term was actually coined by K. W. Jeter to classify works by a group of authors. It has now spread to include music (Abney Park), inventors (Jake Van Slatt), and fashion (Clockwork Couture). I've started reading "The Anubis Gates" and will let you know what I think about it when I'm done. So far, I've listened to quite a few Abney Park songs and love them. As I find more groups like them, I'll pass them along as well.

Have you got a comment about steampunk? Like it? Not? If so, what particular sites do you like to visit?

Dave Arneson, Dungeons & Dragons Co-Creator Passes

Starting in the mid-70's, Dungeon & Dragons has grown to a $1 billion empire. Almost 35 years later, it stills reigns as the most well-known games of it's genre. It should, it started the genre. Now, in just over a year, it has lost both of it's creators. Gary Gygax died March 4, 2008 and now, David Arneson has passed on April 7th, 2009. Both legends in the gaming community, they will be sorely missed. I met Gary in 1988 at GenCon XX in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, while stationed at Great Lakes, Il. Though I've never met Dave, I've played many games that he had a hand in creating. If you are a fan of any mmorpg, especially World of Warcraft, then you can also thank these men for they have had a indirect role in it's creation. God rest ye both.

U2 at Cowboys Stadium

October 12 is the date for U2 360. Tickets go on sale April 20th and they couldn't come at a worse time. I'm without job (though an interview comes next week.) By the time I could come up with money, I'm sure the tickets will either be sold out or be so astronomically high that I won't even entertain the thought.

I've only been to one U2 concert and that was PopMart. Everyone seemed to pan it but I was really blown away. We were 40 rows back but they had a second stage about 6 rows from us that they came out on and performed. A 30 foot lemon-shaped disco ball was the capper of the evening.

Got any favorite U2 moments? Post or email me and let me know and I'll post it for you.

Red Dwarf: Back To Earth

Red Dwarf is one of those sci-fi comedies that is an acquired taste for some. To me, I find it to be one of the prime examples of British humor. I can only catch it on the internet now through Netflix, but at least I can watch it. Now, the cast has reunited for "Red Dwarf: Back to Earth" special. I can't wait to see it. Unfortunately, I'll have to, again, try and catch it on the internet. Seems my cable company decided it wasn't worth keeping on BBC America.

Hot Rods & Heels

Scarborough Renaissance Festival

It's that time of year when the noblery come out to converse with their minions, beer-swilling mercenaries with turkey leg in tow follow closely behind and all the common folk come out to watch. I'll be looking forward to my favorites, Don Juan and Miguel.

My wife and I won't be there the opening weekend but the following with the complimentary passes we scored at All-Con just last month. That leaves more money for turkey legs, beer, and wenc. . . never mind.

Hope to follow with a post and some pictures on how everything turned out. If you go or have gone in the past, email me your story and a photo or two and I'll post the best ones. Until then, fare thee well!
